FAQs
What Is a Witch? A Witch can be defined in countless ways and that definition varies depending on who you ask. If you practice Witchcraft, you are a Witch. That's the simplest way I personally define it. The way you practice, the frequency of your practice, and when you engage in it are all personal choices that do not determine whether you are a Witch. A Witch is not defined by merely reading about Witchcraft, wearing 'Witchy' clothes, embracing the Witch aesthetic, having Witchy tools and books, or thinking a lot about Witchcraft unless they also actively practice it. Witchcraft is a practice, not a religion or bloodline; to truly be a Witch, you must practice Witchcraft.
What is Secular Witchcraft? Secular Witchcraft generally does not involve worship or reliance on religious doctrines or frameworks or specific deities. Secular Witches may still use and believe in magick, work with Spirits or Ancestors, perform spells, and celebrate the cycles of nature and the changing seasons, but they do so in a non-religious context. Secular Witches usually find magick and Science to be compatible and prioritize scientific understanding and rational thought alongside their mystical practices. Secular witchcraft offers a flexible and individualized approach to Witchcraft, allowing practitioners to craft a path that resonates with their personal beliefs and lifestyles without dogma. It embraces a harmonious blend of practical magick, personal growth, and a respect for the natural world, appealing to those who seek a non-religious form of spiritual practice. Depending on personal perspectives, Secular Witches may engage with aspects of magick either symbolically or literally. As a Secular Witch, I blend folk magic and Spirit work into my rituals, while also integrating the scientific method into my spellwork and employing Jungian archetypes in my divination practices. Non-theistic Witchcraft and Secular Witchcraft are, imo, the same or very similar and these labels can be interchanged. As a Secular/Non-Theistic Witch, I believe decisions should be made without reference to religious beliefs, both in my personal practice as well as societally. Instead, logic, reason and evidence based facts should take precedent in major decision-making. For example, I might do divination alongside a major decision in my mundane life, but reason, logic and evidence-based facts are prioritized above all else. While divination can be helpful for Spiritual, magickal and ritual questions and guidance, they don't hold the same weight for me when it comes to my physical reality. In those cases, divination won't be the most important factor in my decision-making process, and may not factor in at all.
Is Secular Witchcraft Different from Atheistic Witchcraft? Yes. The core of Secular Witchcraft is that it is a practice that keeps any religion or belief in deities separate from their magickal practice. For most Secular Witches, this includes no religion or belief in deities. However, some Secular Witches may simply separate these aspects of their lives. Secular Witches can still be spiritual, work with energy/magick and Spirits. There's a lot of overlap between Atheist and Secular Witchcraft, the main being the lack of religion or deities in their belief structure. However, Atheistic Witchcraft tends to reject spirituality, the Spirit Model and the Energy Model. It deals more in absolutes that aren't as flexible as Secular practices tend to be. With that said, this is based on my personal views. An argument can be made for these labels to be interchangeable or their definitions swapped. There is no single authority on either of these definitions, so it's important to explore each of these different communities to determine what definition, beliefs or label (if you are looking for one) fits you best.
What is Animism? Animism is a belief system that attributes non-human entities such as animals, plants, inanimate objects, and natural phenomena with a spiritual essence or consciousness. It is one of the oldest forms of spiritual beliefs and is often considered the foundational spiritual perspective of many indigenous and tribal cultures around the world. Animism provides a framework for understanding the world that emphasizes the spiritual significance of all elements of nature. By recognizing the Spirits within all things, animists cultivate a profound respect and responsibility towards the environment.
What is Folk Magick? Folk magick, sometimes called ‘Low Magick’, encompasses a diverse array of practices rooted in regional customs, cultural traditions, and community beliefs. This is local magick. Unlike ceremonial or high magic, which can be complex and heavily ritualized, folk magick is typically characterized by its simplicity, practicality, and accessibility to everyday people. Folk magick is grounded in practicality, using what's on hand and straightforward methods. It is often passed down through generations orally or through shared community experiences, making it accessible to anyone interested in incorporating it into their lives. Since folk magick is deeply intertwined with cultural traditions, it varies widely across different regions and communities. Each tradition reflects the unique history, environment, and beliefs of its people, leading to a rich tapestry of practices worldwide. Folk magick is seamlessly integrated into daily life, used to address practical concerns such as health, love, prosperity, and protection. It often involves common household items, herbs, and simple rituals, making it a functional part of everyday existence. In many cultures, folk magick coexists with religious practices. It often incorporates elements from local religious beliefs, creating a blend of spiritual and magickal elements that reflect the community's worldview. In my own practice, any religious beliefs and practices have been disentangled from my folk magick to keep it secular. Folk magick often uses herbs and plants for healing, protection, and spellwork, relying on the natural properties of these elements. Creating and using charms and talismans for protection, luck, or specific intentions is a common practice. These items can be made from natural or crafted materials. Divination methods such as reading tea leaves, interpreting dreams, or using pendulums are employed for guidance and insight. Simple rituals and spells, tailored to personal needs, are performed to manifest desires or influence outcomes. These may include candle magic, knot magic, or the use of symbolic objects.

How long does each course take to complete? Most of the courses are self-paced, allowing you to decide how long it takes to finish each one. Some courses are scheduled and delivered in sections directly to your inbox daily. Many of my courses can be read, watched, or listened to relatively quickly—often in just a day or two. However, there are suggested practices and techniques that are essential to engage with, which can add time to your learning process. If you choose to skip these suggested activities and rush through the courses, you are free to do so. I won't be checking whether you've completed every assignment or done the work at home. Ultimately, accountability lies with you if you genuinely wish to Walk in Your Power and embrace the path of the Witch. If not, you might want to consider why you are here. I’ve designed most courses to take anywhere from one week to a month. Many of my students prefer to work through one course at a time, progressing at their own pace over the span of 1-2 months. Of course, some start a new course every week as well! This school is here to support you in learning Witchcraft in a way that suits you best. Now, let's be real. This isn't high school. You're here because you want to be, not because you have to be. We're all adults here, and none of us have time to waste. You probably have a life, a job, maybe family responsibilities that make scheduling tricky. There’s no rush, and it’s not a race. Consider where you want to be in your practice a year from now. Real growth requires hard work, and I won’t sugarcoat that. Approach this journey as someone who earnestly wants to learn, rather than someone merely racing to the finish line to say it’s done. I want you to extract every bit of wisdom from your Witchcraft experience!
